Aleksandr Ivanchenko, a Russian writer born on June 1, 1945, died on June 1, 2026.
Born in Krasnoturyinsk, in the Sverdlovsk region, he studied at the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute and began his career in 1976. Before turning fully to writing, he worked in several trades, including as a locksmith and firefighter, and also served in the Soviet Army in the 1960s.
Ivanchenko published his first works in 1976, including the story “Fisheye” and the novel Solar Plexus. His novel Monogram was nominated for the inaugural Russian Booker Prize, and he later received the Antibooker Prize for Bathing the Red Horse.
