Wei Zongwan, the Chinese actor known for San Mao Joins the Army and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, died on June 1, 2026, in Shanghai.
He was 87. Born in Shanghai on November 24, 1938, he studied at the Shanghai Theatre Academy and built a career that began after the 1980s, appearing in more than 70 films and television productions.
Among his best-known performances was his Golden Rooster Award-winning supporting role in San Mao Joins the Army, and he was later nominated for a Macau International Movie Festival award for A Singing Fairy. Also credited as Zongwan Wei and Wei Zong-Wan, he worked in film and television through 2026.
