Sir Angus Stirling dead at age 92, British arts administrator and conservationist

Sir Angus Stirling, a British arts administrator and conservationist who served as director general of the National Trust, died on June 1, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born Angus Duncan Æneas Stirling on December 10, 1933, he was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge, before going on to study the history of art at London University as an extramural student. He also trained as an artist at the Lydgate Art Research Centre in Britain, and later held exhibitions in London and Somerset.

In addition to his work with the National Trust, he served on many charitable bodies in the United Kingdom and was an honorary fellow of both the Courtauld Institute of Art and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
