Known for the television programs De Fred Haché Show and Van Oekel’s Discohoek, Schippers also built a parallel career as a visual artist, including the work Torentje van Drienerlo. Born Willem Theodoor Schippers in Groningen on July 1, 1942, he came of age in Bussum and studied at Amsterdam’s Kunstnijverheidsschool, later the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, without graduating. During the 1960s, he became associated with the international Fluxus movement and went on to help shape some of the most notable and controversial Dutch television of his era.
