Maček was among the leading Croatian women’s chess players from the early 1970s into the mid-2000s, winning the Yugoslav Women’s Chess Championship in 1980 and the Croatian Women’s Chess Championship twice, in 1992 and 1999.
Her other notable results included an individual bronze medal at the 1974 Women’s Chess Olympiad and victory in the first European Senior Chess Championship for women in 2003.
