Russell Robins, the Welsh rugby union player who later turned professional in rugby league, died on September 27, 2019, aged 87.

Born Russell John Robins in Pontypridd in 1932, he emerged from Pontypridd RFC as a forward capable of playing lock, flanker or number eight. He went on to represent Wales and the British Lions in rugby union before switching codes and joining Leeds in rugby league.

Robins also worked outside the game, including service with the National Coal Board and later as a lecturer for the Army.
