Russell Robins, the Welsh rugby union player who also went on to play rugby league, died on September 27, 2019, aged 87.

Born Russell John Robins in Pontypridd in 1932, he represented Wales and the British Lions in rugby union before switching codes and joining Leeds in rugby league. In union, he played for Pontypridd RFC and was used in the lock, flanker and number eight positions.

His career spanned the 1940s and 1950s, and he later worked as a maths teacher at the Army Apprentice College at Chepstow, where he coached the rugby team and also played for the staff side.
