Rowell Huesmann American academic dead at age 82

Rowell Huesmann, an American academic and the Amos N.

Tversky Collegiate Professor Emeritus of Communication Studies and Psychology and director of the ISR Research Center for Group Dynamics at the University of Michigan, died on December 21, 2025, at the age of 82. He was known for his work on imitation and observational learning as primary psychological mechanisms in the development of aggressive and violent behavior and the contagion of violence.

His longitudinal studies with Leonard Eron and Eric Dubow found that more aggressive children were more likely to become aggressive adults and that exposure to violence in childhood was associated with later aggression.

Rowell Huesmann (January 20, 1943 – December 21, 2025) was an American academic who was the Amos N. Tversky Collegiate Professor Emeritus of Communication Studies and Psychology, and Director, ISR Research Center for Group Dynamics at the University of Michigan.
