Petersburg, Florida, died on August 27, 2026, at age 81 of multiple organ failure and pneumonia. Born Edward Francis Sylvia in New Bedford, Massachusetts, on January 27, 1945, he later changed his name to William Larry Edwards after moving to Detroit.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and earned a Purple Heart. After leaving the military, he entered the mortgage business and went on to become a real estate developer and sports team owner and executive, while also giving regularly to charities in the Tampa Bay area.
