
Roque Avallay, an Argentine footballer who played for Newell’s Old Boys, Huracán and the Argentina national team, died on May 2, 2026, at the age of 80.
Avallay, whose full name was Roque Alberto Avallay, began his career with Deportivo Maipú in 1964 before joining Independiente of the Primera División Argentina. He was part of the Independiente side that won the Copa Libertadores in 1965.
In 1966, he moved to Newell’s Old Boys in Rosario, and in 1968 he received his first call-up to the Argentina national team.
