James Lawrence King, an American judge and senior United States district judge for the Southern District of Florida, died on May 2, 2026.
He was 98. Born in Miami on December 20, 1927, King graduated from Redland High School in 1945, earned a Bachelor of Education from the University of Florida in 1949 and a Bachelor of Laws from the university in 1953.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1955, practiced law in Miami, served on the Florida Board of Regents, and was a circuit judge of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Florida from 1964 to 1970.
