Rod Martin

Rod Martin, the American football linebacker who played for the Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders, died on April 20, 2026.

He was 72. Martin played for the Raiders from 1977 to 1988 and is best known for recording three interceptions in Super Bowl XV, a performance that put him on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Born in Welch, West Virginia, he played college football for the USC Trojans, where he was a 1976 All-Pac-10 selection, after earlier playing at Los Angeles City College.
