
Michael John Chamberlin, an American biochemist and molecular biologist, died on November 1, 2025, at age 88.
He was professor emeritus of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of California, Berkeley. Chamberlin’s research focused on gene expression in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, including how RNA polymerases initiated and terminated transcription.
He was elected to the United States National Academy of Sciences in 1986.
