Bill Goichberg, an American chess player, died on August 2, 2026, at age 83.

Widely known in chess circles as both a master and a tournament organizer, he founded the Continental Chess Association, which operated the annual World Open and other major events. Goichberg also served as president of the United States Chess Federation and earlier worked for the federation as its rating statistician after graduating from New York University in 1963.

He later became co-editor of Chess Life with Ed Edmondson and, in 1976, captained the U.S. team that won the world championship at the Chess Olympiad.
