Parker, the British classical scholar known especially for her work on the metres of ancient Greek poetry, died on April 1, 2026, at the age of 93. Born in England in 1933 and published under her maiden name, Laetitia Parvin Erna Parker studied Classics at the University of Cambridge before taking a graduate studentship there while pursuing her doctorate at the University of London under A. M. Dale. She received her doctorate in 1962 for a thesis on Greek lyric metre, and later held teaching posts at Westfield College, London, King’s College, Newcastle, and Oxford.
