Smith, an Australian footballer who played with Melbourne and Carlton, died on April 1, 2026, aged 78. Born in Brunswick, Victoria, on September 22, 1947, Peter Victor Smith played Australian rules football in the Victorian Football League with Melbourne and Carlton.
Recruited from Melbourne Grammar, he joined Melbourne under the pressure of being the son of club great Norm Smith. A forward, he played eight games in the 1966 season and 15 in 1967 before moving to Carlton, where he spent much of his time as captain of the reserves and played 15 senior games. He later played with Port Melbourne and Coburg, and topped the Victorian Football Association Division Two goal-kicking in 1974 with 121 goals.
