Kamal Kharazi public figure dead at age 82

Kamal Kharazi

Kamal Kharazi, an Iranian reformist politician and diplomat, died on April 9, 2026, at the age of 81.

Born in Tehran in 1944, he served as Iran’s foreign minister from 1997 to 2005 and later was an advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He was also a member of the Expediency Discernment Council, chairman of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, and co-founded the Institute for Cognitive Science Studies in 2016.

Kharazi earned a BA in Arabic studies and a Master of Education from the University of Tehran, and later received a PhD in industrial psychology from the University of Houston.
