Lackey, an American politician from Kentucky, died on February 5, 2026, at the age of 78. He served in the Kentucky Senate from 1982 to 1987 and again from 1991 to 1995.
First elected in 1981 after the retirement of incumbent senator William Sullivan, he was defeated for renomination in 1986 by John Hall. Lackey later challenged Hall again in 1990 and won the rematch. In 1994, he ran for Kentucky’s 1st congressional district and lost the Democratic nomination to incumbent representative Tom Barlow.
