Fisher, an American jazz trumpeter and composer, died on August 18, 2026, aged 99. Born Frank Rufus Fisher in Huntsville, Texas, in 1926, he built a career that spanned more than seven decades and became a familiar presence in the San Francisco Bay Area jazz scene.
Fisher played in the Fillmore District during the 1940s and 1950s and was a member of the Junius Courtney Band from the 1960s onward. He was also known as a music arranger and remained one of the region’s oldest jazz musicians still performing.
