He lived in Calgary, Alberta, and was also a writer and educator. Born in Leicester, England, on April 18, 1935, Cameron moved to Canada in 1969.
He studied at the University of Durham and the Courtauld Institute. His work included the Process Paintings of the 1960s, videotapes made mainly from 1973 to 1976, and the gesso-coated objects he began making in 1979. He taught for 47 years at universities in England and Canada until 2020 and was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
