Born in 1946, she began performing as a child and won notice at age 9 for starring in the television series Maggie Muggins. She later appeared on Canadian television in On Camera and General Motors Theatre, and in 1982 she drew attention in Toronto municipal politics by running for mayor under the pseudonym A.

Hummer, finishing second to Art Eggleton. Taylor also helped found VideoCabaret with her husband, Michael Hollingsworth, and was associated with productions that explored Canadian history and with the development of what she called “stand-up journalism.”
