Nationality: Canada.

Wayne Steeves, a Canadian politician who served as a New Brunswick MLA from 1999 to 2014, died October 12, 2026, aged 81.

Born December 12, 1944, in Lower Coverdale, New Brunswick, he was the son of Noel Steeves and Vera Downing. A Progressive Conservative, Steeves sought election to the Legislative Assembly for Albert in every election from 1991 onward.

He was defeated in 1991 and 1995 before winning the seat in 1999. Re-elected in 2003, he joined the provincial cabinet as minister of public safety. He won another term in 2006, when his party moved into opposition, and left cabinet as a result. Steeves’s political path to the legislature thus included two unsuccessful campaigns before his first victory, followed by re-election in two subsequent contests. His public service combined constituency representation with a cabinet role overseeing public safety; the change in his party’s position in 2006 brought that ministerial period to a close. He remained an MLA until 2014.
