Cliff Fletcher, the Canadian National Hockey League executive who served as general manager of the Atlanta Flames, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs and Phoenix Coyotes, died on June 5, 2026.
He was 90. Born George Clifford Fletcher in Montreal on August 16, 1935, Fletcher spent an eight-decade career in hockey that began as a scout in 1956 with the Montreal Canadiens.
He later became a general manager for the Verdun Blues junior team and went on to help guide the Calgary Flames to their only Stanley Cup championship. Known to many in the game as “Trader Cliff,” Fletcher also served as senior adviser to the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2008 until 2026.
