Denis Coughlan, the Irish Gaelic footballer and hurler associated with Glen Rovers and St.
Nicholas’, died on June 5, 2026, aged 80. Born in Blackpool on June 7, 1945, he became one of Cork’s leading dual players, competing at senior level in both hurling and Gaelic football over a 15-year inter-county career.
Coughlan began with Glen Rovers as a hurler and St. Nicholas’ as a footballer, and his club career stretched from the 1960s into the 1980s. Among his notable honours were All-Ireland Club Championship medals with Glen Rovers in 1973, when he captained the side, and again in 1977, along with a GAA GPA Hurling All Star.
