Chen Bangzhu, a Chinese politician who served as governor of Hunan from 1989 to 1994 and as chairman of the Committee of Population, Resources and Environment from 2000 to 2008, died on February 8, 2026, at age 91.
Born in Jiujiang, Jiangxi, in September 1934, he graduated from Chongqing Jianzhu University in 1954 and joined the Chinese Communist Party in October 1975. He also served as mayor of Yueyang, minister of Internal Trade from 1995 to 1998, and deputy director of the State Economic and Trade Commission in 1998.
