Augusta Lynn Bolles, an American anthropologist, died on February 8, 2026.
She was 76. Bolles was professor emerita of women’s studies and affiliate faculty in anthropology, African American studies, American studies, comparative literature and the Latin American studies center at the University of Maryland.
She also served as co-chair of The Cottagers’ African American Cultural Festival. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, she earned degrees from Syracuse University and Rutgers University and earlier taught at Bowdoin College.
