Known as Vaidya Balendu Prakash, he was born on March 14, 1959, in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and went on to found Paadav, a specialty Ayurvedic hospital in Dehradun. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri in medicine in 1999.
