Platon Udovenko, a Ukrainian bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church, died in Moscow on November 6, 2026, aged 85.
Born Vladimir Petrovich Udovenko on November 17, 1940, in the settlement of Uspenka, he served as metropolitan of Feodosia and Kerch from 2012 to 2024. He was a retired bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church at the time of his death.
Udovenko also held elected office during the final years of the Soviet Union and the early Russian Federation. He was a people’s deputy of the RSFSR and the Russian Federation from 1990 to 1993, and served on the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR and Russian Federation from 1991 to 1992. His honors included the Order of Friendship and distinctions of the Russian Orthodox Church, among them the Order of St. Sergius of Radonezh, first and second class, and the Order of Holy Prince Daniel of Moscow, first and second class. Ukraine added him to its sanctions list on January 24, 2023, imposing measures that included an asset freeze and restrictions on commercial operations and capital transfers. He was also an honorary citizen of Kerch Urban Okrug.
