Charles Hollis Jones, the American furniture designer known for his use of acrylic and lucite, died on August 7, 2026, aged 81.

Jones built a reputation for turning materials such as acrylic and plastic into upscale furniture and art at a time when they were still uncommon in that field. He founded CHJ Designs in 1961, when he was 16, and moved to Los Angeles in 1963.

His pieces were later commissioned by a range of prominent clients, including Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball and Johnny Carson, and one of his best-known works, the Wisteria chair, was created for Tennessee Williams.
