
Abdolrahim Mousavi, an Iranian military officer who served as Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, died on February 28, 2026, in Tehran, Iran, at the age of 65–66.
He held the post from June 2025 until his death, taking over after the death of Mohammad Bagheri during the Twelve-Day War. Mousavi had previously served as Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Army from 2017 to 2025.
His military career began in 1979, and during the 1980–88 Iran–Iraq War he served in the army’s artillery units on several fronts. He also held senior command positions including deputy chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces and chief of staff of the Ground Forces.
