Willie Callaghan, the Scottish footballer who played for Dunfermline Athletic, Berwick Rangers and Cowdenbeath, died on September 19, 2026, aged 83.
Born William Thomas Callaghan in Cowdenbeath on February 12, 1943, he spent most of his club career with Dunfermline Athletic, where he made 426 appearances and featured in 34 European matches, a club record. Callaghan played in two Scottish Cup finals for the Pars, losing to Celtic in 1965 before winning against Hearts in 1968, and he was capped six times by Scotland between 1967 and 1970.
He was inducted into Dunfermline Athletic’s hall of fame in 2008.
