Umberto Bossi, the Italian politician who was an MP from 1987 to 2004 and again from 2008, twice an MEP and a co-founder of Lega Nord, died on March 19, 2026, at the age of 84.
Born in Cassano Magnago, Italy, in 1941, he was a leader of Lega Nord, the party that sought autonomy for Northern Italy, or Padania. Bossi graduated from a scientific high school and later studied medicine at the University of Pavia, though he did not complete a degree.
He was briefly a member of the Italian Communist Party in 1975.
