
Umar Shihab, an Indonesian Islamic scholar and politician, died on March 21, 2026, at the age of 86.
Born on July 2, 1939, in Sidenreng Rappang Regency, he was a member of Golkar and served in the House of Representatives of Indonesia from 1992 to 1997. He later chaired the Ukhuwah Islamiyah of the Indonesian Ulama Council from 1998 to 2015.
In 2017, he wrote the book Different Sects, One Islam, published by Elex Media Komputindo.
