Desmond Barrit, British actor best known for his stage work, died on March 21, 2026, aged 81.
Born Desmond Brown in Morriston, near Swansea, Wales, on October 19, 1944, he worked as an actor from 1979 to 2021. His screen roles included Humpty Dumpty in Alice through the Looking Glass (1998).
He also appeared in stage productions including Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 2003, playing Shylock, and The History Boys at Wyndham’s Theatre in 2007, as Hector.
