Born in Leningrad on September 27, 1958, he built a career in Russian, and formerly Soviet, journalism and became known as one of the country’s more authoritative film and theater critics. Sholokhov studied at the Faculty of Philology of Saint Petersburg State University and was a Candidate of Art Sciences.
He received the Golden Pen ’96 award as Journalist of the Year and was named an Academician of the Academy Nika Award. His work also included television, where he took part in the 1991 broadcast with Sergey Kuryokhin of the hoax “Lenin was a mushroom.”
