A politician, military commander and author, he was born on August 25, 1934, in Evale, Angola. Shityuwete served as a commander in the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia, the armed wing of SWAPO, and later wrote an autobiography, Never Follow the Wolf, after Namibia’s independence in 1990.
The book recounted his imprisonment on Robben Island and his trial over his role in the Namibian War of Independence. He also studied at the University of Birmingham.
