Peter H.
Raven, an American botanist and environmentalist, died on April 25, 2026, at age 89. Raven was born in Shanghai, China, on June 13, 1936, to American parents.
He became a member of the California Academy of Sciences while still a youth and later earned a BSc in biology from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1957 and a Ph.D. in botany from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1960. He was longtime director and president emeritus of the Missouri Botanical Garden.
