She was 98. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, she grew up in Tyronza, Arkansas and Memphis.

Dunn studied voice with Karin Branzell and Beverley Peck Johnson before making her professional debut as Carmen at the New Orleans Opera in 1955. That same year she appeared in Chicago as Maddalena in Rigoletto, and in 1956 she made her New York City Opera debut as the Fourth Lady in The Magic Flute. She was especially associated with dramatic Italian mezzo-soprano roles including Amneris in Aida, Azucena in Il trovatore, Eboli in Don Carlo, Laura and La Cieca in La gioconda, the Princess in Adriana Lecouvreur, and Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana.
