
Marcos Leite, the Brazilian basketball player and coach known as Marquinhos Leite, died on March 22, 2026.
He was 73. Leite represented Brazil at three Summer Olympics and four FIBA World Cup competitions, including the 1972, 1980 and 1984 Olympics.
A center who stood 2.08 meters tall, he was born in Rio de Janeiro on March 23, 1952. He began his club career with Fluminense and later played college basketball at Pepperdine University from 1974 to 1976.
Marcos Antônio Abdalla Leite (23 March 1952 – 22 March 2026), also commonly known as Marquinhos Leite, was a Brazilian professional basketball player and coach. He represented the senior Brazilian national basketball team at three Summer Olympics and four FIBA World Cup competitions. At a height of 2.08 m (6 ft 10 in) tall, he played at the center position.
