Peter Stead, Welsh writer, broadcaster and historian, died on March 22, 2026.

Born in Barry, Wales, in 1943, he attended grammar schools in Barry and Gowerton and studied history at Swansea University under Prof Glanmor Williams. He later served as a visiting Fulbright scholar at Wellesley College and at the University of North Carolina.

Stead was chairman of the Dylan Thomas Literary Prize and, with the late Patrick Hannan, took part for several years in the Welsh team on the radio series Round Britain Quiz. In 2013, he was elected a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales.

Peter Stead FLSW (1943 – 23 March 2026) was a Welsh writer, broadcaster and historian.
