Sylvia Kersenbaum Argentine pianist, composer and teacher dead at age 84

Sylvia Kersenbaum, an Argentine pianist, composer and teacher, died on March 22, 2026.

Born in Buenos Aires on Dec. 27, 1941, she was known for performing the complete cycle of 32 Beethoven piano sonatas twice, in 1989–1990 and 2003–2004, and for her music for the ballet The Masque of the Red Death, based on a story by Edgar Allan Poe.

She studied music from an early age and later taught and performed internationally.

Sylvia Haydée Kersenbaum (27 December 1941 – 22 March 2026) was an Argentine pianist, composer and teacher. Among other things, she is recognized for performing the complete cycle of 32 Beethoven piano sonatas twice (in 1989–1990 and 2003–2004), and her music for the ballet The Masque of the Red Death, based on a story by Edgar Allan Poe.
