More about Nilton Travesso
Nilton Travesso, a Brazilian television director and producer associated with TV Globo, Rede Bandeirantes, Rede Manchete and SBT, died in São Paulo on November 6, 2026, aged 92.
Born Nilton Adriano Travesso in Sorocaba on May 20, 1934, he joined RecordTV’s team in 1953, the year the station was founded, and worked there directing and producing telenovelas. His credits included Teatro Cacilda Becker and telenovelas by Ciro Bassini, Ivani Ribeiro and Roberto Freire.
He also directed Bate Papo com Silveira Sampaio, with Silveira Sampaio; La Revuer Chic, with Jô Soares; and Dia a Dia, with Cidinha Campos. Together, these programs and serial dramas show the range of his assignments, from scripted television to programs built around presenters. The titles also preserve a record of the performers and broadcasters associated with his work. Travesso was the son of José Traverso, who later used the surname Travesso, and Adelina Damiani. Both parents were children of Italian immigrants, a family detail that places his background within the Italian immigrant communities represented in Brazil. His career included work at several Brazilian broadcasters, while his directing and production credits encompassed both television programs and telenovelas.
