Lucette Lousteau, a French politician who served as a deputy from 2012 to 2017, died on November 7, 2026, aged 77.
Born in Oran, Algeria, on December 20, 1948, she entered elected regional politics when she won a seat on the Aquitaine council in 2010. In the 2012 French legislative election, she stood in Lot-et-Garonne’s 1st constituency and won election to the National Assembly with 52.02 percent of the votes cast.
Her victory came against the outgoing deputy, Jean Dionis du Séjour, and began her parliamentary service representing the constituency. Olivier Campan served as her deputy during her parliamentary term. Lousteau’s political work also included party organization: she was the first federal secretary of the Socialist Party, alongside her regional and national elected responsibilities. Her public career thus encompassed a regional council seat, a constituency mandate in the national legislature and a senior role within the party. She was a Knight of the Legion of Honour.
