He was 84. Born in Copenhagen on May 28, 1942, Nielsen, also known as Leif Bernhard Nielsen, was named Danish Player of the Year in 1966 and represented Denmark in 28 matches, including at the 1964 European Championship.

He was long associated with BK Frem, where he is regarded as one of the club’s greatest players, and later played for the Houston Stars in 1968. In his final months, he lived in a care home in Skovlunde.
