
John Garrett, a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender and television sports commentator, died on April 28, 2026.
He was 74. Born in Trenton, Ontario, Garrett played in the World Hockey Association from 1973 to 1979 and in the National Hockey League from 1979 to 1985.
Originally selected by the St. Louis Blues in the 1971 NHL entry draft, he spent time with the team’s Central Hockey League affiliate, the Portland Buckaroos of the Western Hockey League, and the Richmond Robins of the American Hockey League before joining the Minnesota Fighting Saints in 1973-74. After retiring from playing, he turned to broadcasting.
