
Ange Édouard Poungui, a Congolese politician, died on April 28, 2026, at age 84.
He served as Prime Minister of Congo-Brazzaville from August 7, 1984, to August 7, 1989, under President Denis Sassou Nguesso. In December 1969, he was included in the original Political Bureau of the Congolese Labour Party as president of the Economy, Finance, and Social Affairs Committee, and he later served in the smaller Political Bureau elected in December 1971, with responsibility for finance and equipment.
From August 1972 to July 1973, he served as vice president of Marien Ngouabi. In 2009, he was chosen as the Pan-African Union for Social Democracy candidate for the presidential election but was barred from running.
