Christian Piquemal, a French military officer and army corps general of the French Army, died October 23, 2026, aged 85.

Born in Huos, Haute-Garonne, France, on December 17, 1940, he studied at Lycée Hoche and later attended military, scientific and engineering institutions, including École spéciale militaire de Saint-Cyr, the School of Military Applications of Atomic Energy, Supélec, Pierre-et-Marie-Curie Campus and École supérieure de guerre. He went on to command the French Foreign Legion as Commandant from 1994 to 1999.

In 2016, at 75, Piquemal was struck off the generals of the 2nd section after taking part in a far-right political demonstration around the Calais Jungle. French military statutes impose a strict duty of reserve, and the action was described as a breach of the obligations of reserve and loyalty. In 2021, he signed a controversial letter from former generals and retired military personnel. His distinctions included Commander and Officer of the National Order of Merit, Officer and Knight of the Legion of Honour, and the Medal of Youth, Sports and Community Involvement.
