George Ariyoshi, the American politician who served as lieutenant governor of Hawaii from 1970 to 1974 and governor from 1974 to 1986, died on April 19, 2026, at the age of 100.

Born in Honolulu on March 12, 1926, he was the third governor of Hawaii and the first American of Asian descent to serve as governor of a U.S. state.

Ariyoshi, a Democrat, was Hawaii’s longest-serving governor.
