Georg Koch, a German professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper, died on March 4, 2026.
Born in Bergisch Gladbach, he began his career at amateur club SpVgg Erkenschwick before moving to Fortuna Düsseldorf in January 1992. He was initially understudy to Jörg Schmadtke and made no appearances in his first months, but later became the club’s first choice after relegation.
Koch helped Fortuna return to the top division in 1994–95 and remained in goal in the following seasons, making his Bundesliga debut on August 11, 1995, at Werder Bremen.
