
Bernard Rands, the British-born American composer and professor, died on March 4, 2026.
He was 92. Born in Sheffield, England, on March 2, 1934, Rands wrote orchestral works and chamber music, often with a vocal element, as well as a series of Memos for solo instruments.
His Canti del Sole for tenor and orchestra won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1984. He taught at Harvard University from 1988 to 2005.
