Born Clemente Anselmo Agustino Cattini in Stoke Newington, north London, he began his musical career in 1958, first playing at the 2i’s Coffee Bar and backing singers including Terry Dene. He went on to join the Beat Boys, a touring group supporting performers managed by Larry Parnes, among them Marty Wilde and Billy Fury.

Cattini later played with Johnny Kidd & the Pirates before becoming a session musician in 1965. His work as a drummer extended across hundreds of recordings in styles ranging from rock and roll to instrumental rock, and included sessions for artists as varied as Cliff Richard and Lou Reed.
